This 6 week course will enable you to explore applying your illustration to textiles and create your own unique cushion to take home.

Are you an illustrator or artist who would love to push new avenues in your practice with textiles and homewares?

Are you a creative person who would love the chance to create your own custom-made product for your home?

Join me, artist and illustrator Ellie Shipman, to play, explore and experiment with applying your illustration to textiles through digitally printed fabric to make your own illustrated cushion.

This 6 week course in the beautiful workshop space at In Bristol Studios has an introductory rate of £185 per person for 6 x 2.5 hour sessions. The course will cover:

Week 1: Connecting interests, interior design research, trends and mood boards

Week 2: Illustration styles and techniques - exploring materials and your style

Week 3: Designing your cushion placement print or repeat pattern

Week 4: Finalising designs and making pom-poms or tassels

Week 5: Receiving your printed fabric and cushion sewing session

Week 6: Final flourishes - adding embroidery or decorative elements and sharing

You will receive:

  • Guidance, support and tips from artist and illustrator Ellie Shipman on illustration, machine sewing, embroidery, fabric printing, pattern design and more
  • Your design digitally printed onto the fabric of your choice and cushion pad
  • The use of a range of drawing and painting materials
  • A high-res digital scan of your illustration for your own use / future products
  • How to make a variety of different pom poms and tassels
  • Your own custom-made cushion to enjoy at home or use as a prototype for your own future textile products
